Who we are
The Carbon Cure ("we," "us") is a small business based in Staunton, Virginia. This policy covers thecarboncure.org, our newsletter, and orders placed through our website shop. Questions or requests about your information go to chris@thecarboncure.org.
Our articles about plants and remedies are for education. We do not ask you to provide health information through our website.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter sign-up: your first name and email address.
- Orders: your name, email address, shipping address, and phone number if you provide one, entered on Stripe's secure checkout page. Your card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
- Messages: anything you include when you email us.
Information collected automatically
- Hosting and security: our site runs on Cloudflare, which processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site. Our sign-up forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated spam.
- Site analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page visits without using cookies. We also count which of our videos sent visitors to a page. Neither identifies you.
- Advertising measurement: Meta advertising technologies, including cookies, collect information about visits and checkout activity on portions of our website, such as device and browser information, IP address, and advertising identifiers. See "Advertising and cookies" below.
Information from partners
- Stripe tells us what you bought, your contact details, and where to ship.
- Printful tells us when your order is made and shipped.
How we use your information
- To fulfill and ship your order and send order and shipping updates.
- To send the free guide and our newsletter, if you signed up.
- To answer your questions and requests.
- To measure whether our ads lead to sales, so we can spend less on ads that don't work.
- To keep the site secure and prevent fraud and spam.
- To keep business, tax, and legal records.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the companies that help us run the business, and only what each one needs:
- Stripe — processes payments.
- Printful — prints and ships your order (your name, shipping address, email, and what you ordered).
- Resend — delivers our emails.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site, stores our records, and provides security and analytics.
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — measures our advertising, as described below.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or others' safety, or as part of selling or transferring the business.
Some links take you to other companies' sites with their own privacy policies: our TikTok Shop (purchases there are handled by TikTok), Amazon (our book, and product recommendations that may be affiliate links), and our social media pages.
Advertising and cookies
We use Meta advertising technologies on portions of our website to measure how our ads perform and whether they lead to purchases. These technologies use cookies and similar tools.
When you buy from our website shop, we share information about the purchase with Meta for advertising measurement. This can include the order amount, the items purchased, contact and location details (such as email address, name, phone number, and city, state, ZIP code, and country), and device and browser information. We take steps to protect this information before sharing it. Meta's use of it is governed by Meta's Privacy Policy.
Your choices
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of sharing for advertising purposes for that browser.
- Opt out by email: email chris@thecarboncure.org to opt out of our sharing your purchase information with Meta for advertising.
- Meta settings: you can control how Meta uses information for ads in your Facebook ad preferences.
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- Emails: every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing does not stop order and shipping emails about a purchase you made.
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is no agreed standard for it, we do not respond to Do Not Track; we do honor Global Privacy Control as described above.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, or to opt out of certain advertising uses of it.
We do not sell personal information for money. Some state laws may treat our sharing of purchase information with Meta as "sharing," a "sale," or "targeted advertising"; you can opt out of it using the choices above.
To submit a privacy request, email chris@thecarboncure.org. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond as required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
How long we keep information
- Advertising measurement information is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for advertising measurement, fraud prevention, and related business purposes.
- Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Order records are kept as long as needed for fulfillment, returns, and tax and legal records.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections. Payments are handled by Stripe, so card numbers never reach us. No system is perfectly secure.
Children
Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Where we operate
We are based in the United States and ship only within the United States. Information we collect is processed and stored in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date at the top.
